O-Sensei Gichin Funakoshi
Founder of modern Karate-do (1868–1957). Brought Karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan in 1922. Founded the Shotokai organization. Author of Karate-do Kyohan and Karate-do: My Way of Life.
Sensei Tomoji Miyamoto
Senior Shotokai instructor and direct student of Master Shigeru Egami. One of the principal practitioners of the non-contraction approach within the Shotokai Hombu.
