Our condolences - Master Genshin Hironishi has died

Master Genshin Hironishi
(1913 - 1999)

We are sorry to announce the death of Master Genshin (Motonobu) Hironishi.

He died recently in Japan, the 23rd of December, 1999.

This is a very strong loss for the Karate-do world in general, and obviously for Shotokai in general.

Master Genshin Hironishi was the last living godan (5th dan, highest grading ever given by Master Gishin Funakoshi) from before the Second World War. He was also one of the last (if not the last) that could rightfully say he had trained, not only with O-sensei but also Gigo Funakoshi. When Master Funakoshi died in 1957, he takes charge of the master association together with his dear friend, Master Shigeru Egami, as President of Nihon Karate-do Shotokai. This position he had as an honorary title in the last years of his life.

Shotokai Karate-do is very saddened by this great loss and hopes only to be able to maintain a bit of his legacy within it website.
