GOALS OF SHOTOKAI KARATE BUDO

Shotokai is considered by us to be a unique martial arts school, because it has not significantly deviated from the original teachings of this art's founders, thus following the original concepts of Karate-do developed by Masters Gichin Funakoshi and Shigeru Egami.

GOALS

  1. Educate and direct students towards a real understanding of the true nature of the Karate Budo art.

  2. Recognize and unite followers of Karate Budo.

  3. Promote training in a rigorous mental, and physical, discipline.

  4. Organize Karate Budo, at a national, as well as international level, preparing representatives and generating practice centers.

  5. Maintain a total and strict ban of all sorts of competitions among the participants, except those that involve fighting against themselves: fighting and controlling their own errors, problems, limitations and personal conflicts.

  6. Dedicate completely to the technical and philosophical aspects of Karate Budo, as conceived by Master Gichin Funakoshi and further developed by his successor Master Shigeru Egami.

  7. Generate a true consciousness, among the participants, that Karate Budo must be practiced in a rigid martial discipline, with respect to hierarchy, without this resulting in the loss of harmony and fraternal friendship between all those involved.

  8. Attain an understanding between the participants, that Karate Budo and Budo, in general, are a way that can bring women and men closer to God. Karate Budo and Budo being a tool that can complete or complement any creed that in itself tries to bring people towards an encounter with Creation.

  9. Show participants, and those interested, that the final objective of the art are in the spiritual realm: an elimination of vanity and egocentrism, creating consciousness that the individual is only a part of a whole, and that being a part he/she becomes the whole.
